In November 1907—following his re-election as Chairman of the Fine Arts Sub-Committee of the Library, Museum and Fine Arts Committee of the County Borough of Brighton—George announced his intention to retire from the sub-committee and committee respectively, at the completion of his current term.
His resignation was received with regret, having been an original member of the committee, and a devoted Chairman of the sub-committee for 21 years. A vote of thanks engrossed upon velum was presented to George—an artifact which unfortunately seems to have been lost to time.

Resignation of Mr. G. de Paris. At the first meeting of the Fine Arts Sub-Committee held after its re-election in November, 1907, a letter was read from Mr. George de Paris, in which he announced that he did not wish to be re-elected Chairman of the Sub-Committee. Mr. de Paris finally retired from both the Library, Museum and Fine Arts Committee, and the Fine Arts Sub-Committee in October, 1908. His resignation was received with general regret, both by the Committee and Council. Mr. de Paris's connection with the art galleries of the town dates as far back as 1850. He was an original member of the Library, Museum, and Fine Arts Committee, and had been Chairman of the Fine Arts Sub-Committee for 21 years. Mr. de Paris was also actively connected with both the Public Library and the Museum, and the Council by resolution gave him their warmest thanks for these and many other valuable services ; at the same time assuring him of the regret which they felt that time had rendered necessary the severance of his connection with the public work for which he had laboured so long and with so much devotion. It has been arranged that the Council's vote of thanks shall be sealed with the Common Seal of the Borough, engrossed on vellum, and presented to Mr. de Paris.
